Since it is the first day of fall and Labor Day is well gone and passed, lots of people believe it is huge fashion faux pas to continue to wear white. But does this rule still hold true or is it outdated? Below are some comments from well established fashionistas about their thoughts on wearing white after Labor Day. You may be pleasantly surprised that there is no need to pack up your white this year!
- “We definitely feel it’s a myth,” says Melissa McGraw from WorkChic.com. “White can be worn all year round whether it’s your accessories, your pants or your shirt. White is neutral and you can pair it with other colors and it looks great all year round”
- Don”t put away white denim, though, says Suze Yalof Schwartz, executive fashion editor at large at Glamour. Nothing is more chic than white jeans in the wintertime with a chunky cozy sweater or a blazer and leather boots, she says. That will look “very Michael Kors.”
- “You wouldn”t wear a strapless sundress if it were white linen or black linen in the fall,” she says. “Summer clothes are summer clothes, but, colorwise, it’’s more interesting and fun to play with your wardrobe and not leave any color out” (Designer Shoshanna Gruss).
- White pieces are a wardrobe staple these days, and should not be reserved for the summer months. White jeans are appropriate year-round (and in hotter places, are really more appropriate for winter than for summer). Make a white dress or skirt fall-appropriate by pairing it with a light-weight sweater or denim jacket and closed-toed shoes.
What do you think about wearing white through the Fall and Winter? Are you going to break this old rule this year?
